This bridge cross Kirkgunzeon Lane, the march between New Abbey and Lochrutton parishes. Carswada itself is in Lochrutton parish. The first element of that name is Gaelic cars ‘level fertile country, usually riverside land’.
Name Book entry: “A small wooden bridge over Kirkgunzeon Lane for the accommodation of foot travellers, it is on the farm of Carswada hence the name.” OS1/20/90/13
